Continuous Loop
Are you struggling or actually rather spectacular?
Have you ever wondered…
Am I weird?
Am I different?
Do I belong?
Am I noticed?
Am I weak?
Am I strong?
The list goes on and on and on…
I had this “perfect” teaching moment with a third grader the other day:
Some may view him as a student who struggles with learning. If he was asked to take a computerized test (which he was), one might determine based on his scores that he is well below average.
And then the “thing” happened-
This thing when I looked straight into his soul, and he became my teacher. His words so perfectly chosen reminded me that data comes in many forms and sneaks it way past untrained eyes.
I had been told that he couldn’t do the reading required to meet the standard expected for his grade level. Silly testers. I observed how his body craved movement to relax and gently placed a fidget in his hands to see if I could find out more as it was our first meeting.
You see you have to peek behind the curtain,
to sometimes find the treasures that await you. His eyes lit up like fire as his busy fingers twisted and turned the pieces of this tactile tool meant to soothe his senses. He leaned into me in delight and proclaimed, “This is a continuous loop of infinite possibilities!”
Slowly but Surely
I placed a piece of written text within reach of his fancy finger work, and he began to sparkle as he read about meteorites being older than the world itself. He hung on every word as he eloquently paraphrased each idea and detail with the precision of a scientist. He passed the test after all but not the one that did not speak to him.
A Near Miss
My 3rd grade shooting star almost went unseen because he did not connect with the computer that day.
Pay Attention Please

Are you struggling or actually rather spectacular?
Twist and turn and see where it takes you.

Greta, where do you get your fidgets? Email me or message me on Facebook if you need some more.
